“There’s a force breathing into the body 24 hours a day. Its on watch, it’s on call, working for the patient. It cannot become diseased. It’s before that. All it does is carry the original form into the person”.
Dr. James Jealous
Gentle and Safe
BCST is a client led therapy, which allows the clients system to set the pace at which change occurs. A BCST therapist does not assume they know what is best, but rather, trusts the intrinsic wisdom of the body, following the inherit treatment plan and listening to the rhythms and movements of the body. There is a natural curiosity that arises during a session.
A BCST therapist offers a grounding, regulated presence and is curious about what the body is revealing during a session. This allows the body to take the lead as the most intelligent thing in the room.
BCST therapists are trained in interoception, self-awareness, and embodiment practices. BCST offers the client a safe, trauma-informed space to process their history of trauma, and the strategies they learned for self protection.
BCST views the person as a whole and acknowledges the connection of mind, body, and spirit. Also, the mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health of the client is recognized. A BCST session supports the inherent health of the whole body, especially the nervous system.
A Light Touch
BCST believes the health of the body is never lost no matter the illness or diagnosis. A BCST session offers the client an opportunity to come into relationship with the fundamental intelligence of their own body.
With highly skilled, attuned hands, a BCST therapist is listening, coming into relationship with and holding an awareness of the tissues, fluids, and structures of the body with the utmost respect and reverence. A BCST therapist supports the experience for the person on the table, allowing the person to slowly begin to come face to face with the feelings, sensations, and emotions they have avoided.
Peter Levine states “If we go underneath the overwhelming emotions, and touch into physical sensations, something quite profound occurs in our organism – there is a sense of flow, of coming home”.
This sense of flow is what BCST describes as the tides of the body. This is what a BCST therapist does during a session, they tune into the fluids, the tides and the physical sensations arising. They listen.
